New Year's Eve in video games
Ringing in the new year in the digital world #fireworks #newyear #videogame
Welcome back to Artcade, the New Year’s resolution you’ve been ignoring for twelve months that conveniently resurfaces around December 28th. Remember, you can always recycle your resolutions for the next year—nobody will notice. Today, as in last episode’s Christmas special, we have a short post to wish you a Happy New Year and to answer a question you probably haven’t asked yourself (and maybe didn’t want to): do video games celebrate New Year’s? Enjoy the read!
The last few nights have been hard for Ichiban Kasuga. For a member of the Yakuza, there’s no day off or holiday. The demands are relentless—money to collect, scores to settle, and the boss’s son living the high life. Even the toughest gangster has his limits.

And that’s how you end up on a bench, sipping “SUPER BEER” while the plaza next door celebrates the arrival of a new year—in this case, 2001.

Happy New Year from me and Ichiban.

My last two coins
I’ve never understood the tradition of New Year’s resolutions: next year, I’ll do this; next year, I’ll change that. The same goes for end-of-the-year thoughts. Don’t get me wrong—not because I find them useless or harmful, but because my mind goes through the same process every single night before I go to sleep. Does this constant trickle of self-evaluation make me immune to the grand judgment of December 31st? Is the guillotine better than the torture of the drip? I resolve to find out the answer next year.
Until the next episode, ciao!
